Memorial Day Plans?
I don’t know what everyone else has planned for Memorial Day. Sadly enough, it has become less a day about remembering the sacrifices of our Service members here and abroad, and more about bar-b-queing, drinking and going to the pool. Of course, the original intent for Memorial Day was to remember the Union troops that gave their life during the Civil War (earning the day the nickname “Confederate Marksmanship Day” by our friends below the Mason-Dixon line).
Nevertheless, DrudgeReport is reporting (ignore the redundancy) that President Obama is skipping Arlington Cemetery for a trip to Chicago…
I seriously hope this is not true.

The quote above has been taken down off of DrudgeReport right now. We’ll see what happens through the day.

But if you read the article, RJ, he will go to Abraham Lincoln Memorial Cemetary (or some such thing) on Memorial Day.
I think he should stay in D.C. and go to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, which I believe is the tradition (correct me if I’m wrong), but he is not dishonoring those who have died as much as would be thought at first glance.
What is the sudden hang up on Lincoln with all the Dems?
I am fairly sure it is the Republicans that have “Lincoln Day” Dinners….
I, of course, appreciate your early insinuation that I did not bother to read the article Dustin. Yes, I understand he is going to make a paltry attempt at doing something to cover his 6 regarding snubbing Arlington.
In the end, I agree with you: he should stay in DC and visit the The Tomb. I disagree with your last point, however. I believe he is being disrespectful of tradition and the men and women involved in the Armed Forces. Perhaps he will visit after he visits the families of the 11 Oil drillers…
I figured you would appreciate that, RJ. :o) Insinuation is fun.
I do agree the Lincoln visit is paltry compared to snubbing Arlington, and were this the first snub of its kind, it would not be a big deal. However, after his snub of the Berlin Wall’s fall…
I think he is being disrespectful- I never said he was not. What I said was that he is not as disrespectful as he might appear at first glance (mostly, the first glance at Drudge’s headline, which is where I found the article in the first place).
I think it’s something to do with Obamas love affair with Lincoln because he believes Lincoln ended slavery out of the goodness of his heart or moral conscious or something like that.
