I am not really sure if it is fair to come to this deduction after reading Austin's piece. He is merely stating his goal of bringing to the fore-front of today's arguments, the wisdom of the 10th Amendment. It is well known by both sides that the government closest to the people, will best be able to govern those people (while being held accountable by those people). The Federalsts and Anti-Federalists (to varying degress) agreed with this notion of republican government; the Catholic Church even agrees with this (subsidiarity); and hell, even Tip O'Neil said "all politics is local".

While Austin and I may part ways on what is left to the Federal government and what should be stressed by the states, when it comes to these entitlement programs and education, every power grab by the federal government has proven time and time again to hurt rather than help (education since the 1960's, Medicare since the 1960's, Social Security since the 1930s, et cetera).

You would actually rather see weed legalized and gay marriage to be legal at the expense of our national economy and the essential services that it provides to us.
