As we begin…
thelobbyist begins during a very exciting time in American history. As one era ends, another begins. This isn’t simply a reference to a new administration. Yes, after eight years of a tumultuous administration that practically began with 9-11 and ends amidst the closing act of war in the Middle East and international economic down turn, the Bush Administration is handing over the keys to the kingdom. President-elect Obama becomes the first black U.S. President, a triumph over racism in America. After a stellar campaign he will now have to get down to business as it were. He will now have to deliver on campaign promises and we will see if he returns to his far left past, or genuinely attempts to bring both parties together.
However, the real era that is ending is that of the Reagan Era. After 28 years, I believe it has truly come to a close. What a dramatic age. It is impossible to eloquently put into words what Ronald Reagan and the Conservative Movement meant to politics over the last 28 years. It is simply a fantastic political philosophy that will be debated and examined for eras to come. Now we must ask ourselves what the next era will bring. Will it be an era of political socialism, a rebirth of FDR’s New Deal? Will Obama foster in a new era that has yet to be defined in political philosophy? And what happens now for the Conservative Movement? It is certainly not dead. But it is most definitely in a transitional phase. Tom, one of our editors here at thelobbyist argues that the next era of the conservative movement will be defined by a “forward-looking conservatism.” But not to steal his thunder, I will leave that for him to introduce to you.
At thelobbyist, we welcome debate and discourse. We will present you with fresh ideas pertaining to current policy and politics, as well as a humble dose of political philosophy. We will lobby your mind and your reason with our words and our wit. And we invite and heavily encourage your feedback, arguments on behalf of and against that which we’ll put forth, through blog comments and posts on our message board.
Thank you for joining us here at thelobbyist.net.
